How to hold your breath

Water is the first element that a person meets before coming to this world, the element, which is his home for 9 months. After birth, the baby a priori knows how to behave in water: he dives freely and holds his breath. Although even a baby knows how to hold their breath, many adults cannot hold the air in the lungs for more than 40 seconds. Our body is capable of more, it can be taught to hold his breath for a long time.

1
We will study with athletes, namely from divers practicing static apnea. They can be under water in an absolutely relaxed motionless state for more than 20 minutes. But before diving, such athletes breathe pure oxygen from a special cylinder. Without oxygen support, the maximum result of divers is a little more than 10 minutes. In order to learn how to hold their breath for a long time, many of them practice meditation. It helps to learn how to slow down its natural rhythms, and the need to take a breath occurs later.

2
If you want to learn how to hold your breath for a long time, start by increasing the capacity of your lungs. To do this, introduce cardiological exercises and exercises in the water into your daily routine (swimming, water aerobics, etc.). Go on hikes in the mountains. The higher you rise, the more discharged the air will be. Thus, your lungs will work more enhanced, train and strengthen. Just do not overdo it, listen to your body signals.

3
Excess weight, smoking, alcohol - factors that sharply negatively affect all state of the body and its abilities. Therefore, if you want to learn how to hold your breath for a long time, lead a healthy lifestyle. Great ways to make the lungs work on full force is a game of wind instruments and singing.

Performing exercises on breathing holding, it is important to be in a completely relaxed state. Before holding your breath, inhale and exhale slowly, getting rid of all the air in the lungs. Then take a slow breath for 5 seconds and exhale for 10 seconds. Breathe like that for about 2 minutes. It is necessary to cleanse the lungs of the remnants of carbon dioxide, since its accumulation leads to painful sensations with respiratory holding. Exhale the air until it stops.

5
After you have done a deep breath, exhale the air for the last time, inhale and hold your breath for the longest possible time. Do not fill the lungs all the way - this will cause overstrain and rapid oxygen consumption. When you feel that you can’t stand it anymore, take a quick exhalation and the same quick breath. Repeat inhale-output 3 times.

6
Before the next call, it is useful to rinse your face with cool water. Contact with liquid includes an ancient instinct of any mammal in man - the heart begins to beat slower. Accordingly, oxygen consumption will be less. It is better to perform exercises on an empty stomach - this will help you slow down metabolism. The maximum number of repetitions per lesson is 3-4 times. Each time, try to hold your breath for a longer period than in the previous time. It is advisable to perform exercises in the presence of another person: he can help you in the event of a fainting.

7
Another method to hold the breath for a long time was called “buccal breathing”. It was invented and successfully used by fishermen-losers. The method is not only difficult for a beginner, but also extremely dangerous - it can lead to a rupture of the lungs. With “buccal breathing”, the diver completely fills the lungs, then the pharynx muscles overlap the air and when closing the mouth with the help of cheeks pushes additional air into the lungs.

With regular training, you can learn to hold your breath for 5 minutes or more. For example, Indian yogis calmly meditate under water for more than half an hour. True, they feel their body very well, so observe safety precautions and listen to yourself.
