Screw piles are a fairly ancient technology that has been successful in the period of Napoleonic wars and was patented in the early 19th century. Today, piles are used in construction as an element of a pile-screw foundation. Installation of piles does not represent anything complicated, performed quickly, and if the base is erected under a single-storey lightweight building, then the piles can even be done their own.
Advantages of screw piles
Screw piles are pipes made of steel and empty inside. On one side there is a sharp tip with a cutting blade, which allows you to screw the pile to the ground to the desired depth. After reaching the mark, the bulk stops, the piles are securely fixed in the ground, since the blade prevents them into the opposite direction.
The advantages of screw piles are as follows:
- When they are installed, there is no need to plan the platform and provide ways leading to it.
- The use of piles does not depend on the season and weather.
- Wide possibilities of applying piles, as they are used on swampy soil, and on permafrost.
- Low labor costs on a device of such a foundation, if compared with other types of foundations.
- Construction work is beginning immediately after mounting piles, without waiting for a shrinkage of the foundation.

Disadvantages of screw piles
Along with numerous advantages, screw piles are not devoid of flaws:
- When used in moistened soils, the reaction of which differs from neutral, the service life of the piles is limited. The duration of operation of metal products is 50-60 years, borrowing - much more, reaches 100-120 years.
- It is impossible to build on such a foundation high-rise buildings.
- With a pile foundation, the construction of the basement is impossible, otherwise the interaction of piles with the soil will be broken.
- It requires a complex trim of the base and the creation of a high-quality frame to prevent water from entering the subfield.
- When building a pile foundation, it is impossible to use a typical project, calculations are conducted individually for each individual case.
Screw piles are used in the construction of the foundation for temporary and light houses, such as team-shield, wooden baths, household buildings, canopies, fences. Sliding gate with the use of piles is not recommended. They are also not suitable when building the base for the garage.
Making screw piles
Screw the pile - construction consisting of 3 parts, which is manufactured as:
- The carrier part protrudes. A product is used, the diameter of which is from 85 millimeters and more. Next welded screw, it should be located at the pointed end. The strapping is attached to a special headpoint.

Installation of pile field
The installation procedure of the pile field is as follows:

- Spinning piles, segments of pipes are used as levers. Scrap is inserted into the pile hole, with which the levers are put on.
- Carefully screw the pile so that it reaches the bottom of the well. On the light soils of piles, the length of which does not exceed 5 m, wrapped manually. The mechanical method of wrapping pile implies the use of a mini-excavator.
- Test it location. The maximum angle of inclination should not exceed 1-2 degrees at the length of the pile. If the pile left aside, it is not necessary to bring it to it, as it provokes her seating.
