What is euthanasia

What is euthanasia

Euthanasia or departure from the life of a hopelessly patient with the participation of a doctor causes disputes in scientific circles and divided humanity into supporters and opponents of the method. Why is euthanasia in some countries considered a humane act of getting rid of the patient from suffering, and in others - a crime equated to murder?

1
Types of euthanasia

Euthanasia translated from Greek - a slight death. The practice of murder from mercy is carried out with the participation of medical personnel and with the consent of the patient or his relatives.

Two methods of euthanasia:

  • Passive, when the patient’s life is completely dependent on supporting therapy should stop giving him medicines or disconnect from life apparatuses, he will die.
  • Active when a deadly sick patient is administered medications that make it possible to die calmly without pain. Sometimes the patient himself reduces his life under the supervision and briefing of the doctor.

2
Voluntary and forced euthanasia

  • Voluntary euthanasia, when the patient himself asks doctors to help him to die. In the United States, the design of the legal document expresses the will of the patient, in case he is in a coma, when he cannot ask about it.
  • Forced, when the patient is in a coma and close relatives agree to euthanasia.

3
Countries with legalized euthanasia

In countries where the law is allowed by euthanasia at the legislative level, human rights are taken into account, and then the moral and humane side of the issue is considered

  • Albania is the first country where in 1999 passive euthanasia was allowed with the consent of three relatives.
  • At the beginning of the 21st century, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Switzerland legalized active euthanasia. In 2014, the Belgian parliament made a scandalous decision - gave permission to children's euthanasia.
  • Euthanasia is also legalized in Canada and in some US states.

In Switzerland, voluntary suicide can be done by a citizen of any other country for 4000 thousand euros, collecting pre -necessary papers and documents.

3
Arguments “against” euthanasia

  • A self -respecting doctor will not go to kill a person even for humane purposes, it is much more difficult to provide everyday help.
  • Relatives and doctors can use euthanasia in order to enrich or the opportunity to benefit from different types.
  • Many religions, such as Orthodoxy, deny the murder of a person, even a deadly ill, explaining this by the fact that God has a plan for the life of every person, and we have no right to violate his plans.

4
Arguments “For” euthanasia

  • If a person’s life is good, then physical torment and suffering, without a minimal hope for recovery, cannot be considered such. If life depends on supporting modern technical and drugs, it becomes painful.
  • The monetary aspect is also important, instead of treating a hopeless patient, money could help patients who have a chance to recover.
  • An important factor in voluntary departure from life can be human freedom to manage his own life on his own.

Often the request of patients about death is nothing more than a cry of help. A person should not only adequately live, but also leave this world easily. The task of the doctor and relatives to facilitate his departure by supporting him spiritually and with the help of painkillers.
