How to pull a chair with your own hands

The upholstered furniture used daily grows quickly and loses its attractiveness. It is not necessary to purchase a new chair right away: when the frame is in good condition, you can independently replace the upholstery and give the product a “second life”.

1
Restoration begins with the inspection: the integrity of wooden parts and their joints, as well as the state of springs or foam filler, is checked. As a result of the audit, a conclusion is made on the hauling of new material or the complete replacement of soft parts. In the process of updating the chair, the tool is used:

  • Screws turn off the screws;
  • The keys of the warden are untwisted by bolted joints;
  • Cloves and brackets are removed with nippers and pliers;
  • A new casing is fixed by the stapler;
  • Sewing machine use if the fabric coating has a complex shape;
  • Lots are fastened with a needle and thread in most cases.

The new fabric is selected in density and quality, tapestry, jaccar or velor are suitable.

2
The old upholstery is carefully removed, which will play the role of templates - the removed pieces are applied to a new fabric and outlined by a chalk with a margin of 20-30 mm. Wanted springs are replaced by jute bundles, interwoven in a checkerboard pattern and attached to the rear side of the frame. A filler will rely on the shock -absorbing canvas, for which various materials and their combinations are used:

  • Synthetic winterizer;
  • Foam rubber;
  • Batting;
  • Coir;
  • Fluff;
  • Horsehair.

The advantage of with your own hands is the possibility of choosing the most convenient structure of the updated chair.

3
The substrate is made multilayer:

  1. The size of the seat is carved by burlap and foam;
  2. The synthetic winterizer is cut more by 50-100 mm on each side;
  3. The first layer is applied by burlap, the second - foam rubber;
  4. The third layer of synthetic winterizer, due to large sizes, closes the “pie”;
  5. The edges of the upper material are hemmed to the frame;
  6. The pillow in the middle is additionally fixed with threads in 4-5 places.

4
The seats are performed. Cutting off the new fabric, it should be remembered that when replacing springs with another filler, the size of the flap can change a lot. We take this into account and leave sufficient allowances. The cut coating is placed in the center of the seat, the edges are bent and shot from below the frame at first rarely, then the folds are leveled, and the fabric is fixed around the entire perimeter. The corners are sewn by investing: one side is started and grabbed, the second is pulled over so that the fold is in the corner, and all this is attached by brackets. It will be easier to work if the armrests are previously removed.

5
They begin to finish the back - the technology is similar to the considered order of the seats, but differs in the use of furniture buttons. A foam rubber is placed on the back, holes for decorative elements are noted and cut out. The next layer is vatin, holes are also made in it. The latter is superimposed and shot by a gun. The back is covered with the front cloth, the buttons are inserted into the recesses and fixed from the back. The use of this technique, called the stitch of the capiton, avoids unnecessary folds - they will “go” inside with buttons.

6
It remains to sew a piece of fabric to the back of the back. Here the best option is the use of specific fasteners-metal brackets for hidden skin. Such planks are purchased in furniture fittings. But you can not spend money and use more affordable methods: shoot a stapler or cloves with original hats.

When engaging in the dumping for the first time, it is recommended to start with simple rectangular chairs. For the restoration of volumetric structures, already having at least a little experience and sewing skills.
