How to insulate the foundation with your own hands

How to insulate the foundation with your own hands

Many developers refuse to insulate the foundation. But in vain! After all, high-quality thermal insulation of the base will save about 30-50% of the heating of the house. Consider more important which materials can be used for this, which there are ways of thermal insulation of the base of the house and how the insulation of the foundation is carried out.

1
The need for the insulation of foundation

The insulation of the foundation is an important event. Especially relevant thermal insulation in the area with a harsh climate, where the soil freezes to a greater depth, since about 10-20% of heat leaves through the foundation. In the case of a bunched soil, which in the winter time is freezing and significantly increases in volume, the danger increases, because it can change its level by 35 cm, which causes not only heat loss, but also the appearance of cracks at the base, as well as the deformation of the foundation and subsequently Houses. In addition, through the non-warmed foundation, it does not only go out, but the cold air penetrates inside, the huses warm also towards the roof, thereby reducing the temperature in the house, provoking the dampness and condensate falling on the walls. The thermal insulation of the base is important and if the basement is planned to be converted to a gaming room, a billiard room, laundry or gym, when you need to create comfortable conditions without damp. If the basement will perform its direct functions, then only the base part can be insulated.

Types of insulation of foundation

There are interior and external thermal insulation of the foundation. The insulation of the foundation of the house from the inside has such advantages: the formation of a favorable microclimate (both in the basement and in the whole house), protection against the harmful effect of groundwater, preventing condensate. However, together with this procedure, many disadvantages are also inherent in the impossibility of preventing the frosting of the foundation and the formation of cracks in it.

That is why all experts advise to give preference to outdoor thermal insulation, which is characterized by such advantages:

  1. A barrier is created to penetrate low temperature and protection against freezing.
  2. Saving money, as the heat loss is reduced.
  3. The service life of the foundation and all the subordinated communications increases.
  4. The structure is reliably protected from groundwater from entering, that is, along with the thermal insulation of the foundation you get and its waterproofing.
  5. The structure does not affect seasonal temperature differences.

3
Methods of external thermal insulation foundation

Given all the advantages of outdoor insulation, consider the procedure more. When choosing a material suitable for this, it is worth knowing its characteristics: it should not be deformed under the pressure of the soil and absorb moisture.

Insulation of the foundation of polyene foamol

Most common way v private construction, which the consists v next:

  • For thermal insulation, extruded polystyrene was used, the strength of which is 200 kPa. The foundation is insulated immediately after construction and laying on top of the slab slabs of the basement. If you plan to insulate the already erected house, you turn around the perimeter at about 1 m, remove the soil residues from the walls and drain them.
  • With the close arrangement of groundwater, the drainage is required. Place the sand and geotextile in the trench. Gravel fall asleep from above. Perforated pipes are placed on, which have a diameter of 10 centimeters, and are output to the collector well. All this needs to be covered again by the same materials, only in reverse order - gravel, geotextile and sand.
  • Cover the foundation of latex paint, and then attach the self-adhesive waterproofing, sinking the joints with a sealant.
  • From above on waterproofing and fasten polystyrene foam on glue, which needs to be applied point - along the perimeter of the sheet and in the center. By pressing the material, hold it for a while, then stick the next sheet. At the joints you need to use the groove specifically designed for this.
  • Educated gaps need to be embedded - to fit and sharpen, and on top covered with a sealant to prevent cold bridges.
  • When working above the level of the ground, the sheet must be additionally fixed using plastic dowels for this. Below the plates will be tightly pressed thanks to the backfill, so the dowel is not needed.
  • Before finishing the foundation, place the surface and climb the reinforcing grid in the plaster.
By creating a break, pre-form a formwork and gravel-sand pillow, on which the polystyrene and reinforcement grid are needed. Then fill in the structure of concrete.

Insulation of the foundation Polyurethane Foenethane

Polyurethane foam is a thermal insulation material that is used in liquid form and is applied in layers. The substance is inherent in high adhesion, so you do not need preparatory work. Polyurethane foam should be sprayed on the surface using a balloon or a special machine. Using such thermal insulation, it turns out at the same time to achieve and sound and waterproofing. The material foams and freezes very quickly, it will take literally a couple of seconds. A seamless coating is subsequently formed, without gaps, which can become a cold bridges, which has a cellular structure, an advantage of a gas consisting (98%). The insulation properties of the polyurethane foam layer, which has a thickness of 50 mm, are comparable to polystyrene foam, the thickness of which is 120 mm.

Warming of the foundation clamzit

Previously, this material was very popular until more modern solutions appeared. However, this method of thermal insulation is in demand and now, especially in the case of a limited budget, since the price of clay is low enough, or as an additional isolation. Consider that the material is characterized by high thermal conductivity, so there will be a lot of raw materials, as well as waterproofing.

The procedure for thermal insulation by clamzit is as follows:

  1. Dut the foundation to its sole and clean its walls. The width of the trench is 100-150 mm.
  2. In the absence of thermal insulation, bitumen mastic is applied.
  3. If the groundwater is located close to the surface, it is recommended to equip the drainage system: cover the bottom of the trench of the PVC film so that it goes to the foundation walls.
  4. Next in the pit it should be placed dry clay.
  5. At the final stage, a breakdown is made to increase the thermal insulation properties of claying sweeping.

Ceramzit

Now you can choose the material correctly for the insulation of the foundation of your home and spend all the work correctly.
