How to remove a crack on the windshield

On the road, no one is safe from small, but annoying troubles. Sooner or later, most of the motorists are faced with the problem of damage to the windshield, and then there is a dilemma - to change the glass at once or to ride “as is”. But when driving “as is”, the problem arises: the crack that appears interferes with the review, glance in the sun, distracting the driver. And this, in turn, reduces the level of driving security. But there is a way out - to repair the glass, to “seal” a crack or chip. And almost any driver can carry out this operation independently.

The essence of the repair is to fill the crack to the entire depth with special photopolymer glue. Glue performs two functions: it glues the edges of the crack and does not allow it to grow further. Possessing the refractive coefficient, approximately equal to the coefficient of refractiveness of the glass, makes the crack almost invisible to the naked eye. The first thing to do, if it so happened that you “caught” the pebble is to prevent road dust and dirt from getting into a crack. Twist it along the entire length with tape. This will protect the crack and will further facilitate its finish stripping. Otherwise, the dirt that has accumulated at the bottom of the crack will be visible inside the glass.

Next, you need to spill the edges of the crack to remove the internal stresses in the glass and prevent further growth. This can be done with a regular drill with a diamond drill. Dental forests that are sold in any “medical equipment” are great. Be careful - do not drill the glass through. After that, it is necessary to thoroughly degrease the repair site. Medical and isopropyl alcohol is perfect. And you can start introducing photopolymer glue into a crack.

For repair, you will need a repair kit consisting of glue itself and some auxiliary accessories. Many manufacturers produce them, they are available in any store store. Preference should be given to world -famous brands such as Abro, Done Deal, Permatex.

We take a special syringe from the set and fill it with glue. Typically, glue consists of two components and requires thorough mixing. After that, with the help of a special device, which also goes in the set, we install the syringe directly above the crack. The design features of the syringe are such that it allows you to create excess pressure in it before starting it. We pump air into the syringe and start downloading. Observing the processing process is most convenient from the car interior, highlighting on the side of a portable lamp. After filling out the entire crack, stop the download.

Everything - the crack is filled. Without removing the syringe from the glass, we leave the glue until completely dried. Usually complete polymerization occurs in 10 hours. The process can be accelerated to 20 minutes, irrading the seam with an ultraviolet lamp. Home -on -lamps are great for home use. If you have it, be sure to use it. After the glue dries, we remove its residues from the glass with a blade for a mounting knife. With polishing paste on a soft cloth, we make several movements and everything is finished! Subject to the entire sequence of operations, the crack will become invisible, almost a spider web, without glare and reflections.
