If you decide to update the BIOS on your computer, you first need to learn its version. Usually, the old versions are recommended to be updated to fresh so as not to expose your system possible conflicts and errors. It's easy enough to do it, however, in this article we will consider only the order of obtaining information about the BIOS version.
Find out the BIOS version in Windows 7, 8 and 10
In principle, this process can be divided into two types:
- Information about BIOS in the system itself;
- And BIOS information directly in the shell.
To get the first information, you do not need to leave the system and restart the computer. Therefore, in order to save your time, it makes sense to first try to execute this manual.
On your keyboard, simultaneously hold the Ctrl + R combination. If one of the keys you have broken, it is enough to open an electronic keyboard in the computer parameters in special features.
A new window will appear on the screen with a string of execution. You need to enter this command:
- mSInfo32.
And press ENTER.
All information will appear immediately. The "System Information" window contains both the BIOS version at the moment. Just find the line "BIOS version" among other information.
As a rule, you may not be specified not just a version, but the developer and the date of the last update. This will also completely come for information about the version.
How to find out the BIOS version on Windows XP
In the older system, Windows XP provides a slightly different search string algorithm, more precisely, it is simply embedded in the "Start" panel of the computer. If you do not have it, then you can use the previous method, which will be longer.
Open the start and enter the query "MSINFO32" to the search string. After a few seconds you will see the executable file instead of the start menu. Click on it with the mouse to run.
After that you will see the system of information about the system already familiar to you. You will also need a line "BIOS version" and "SMBIOS version", which also may need.
How to find out the BIOS version from under the shell
If you can't check the version of the above methods, or you want to get more detailed information about your shell, it is better to do this with a reboot and direct input to the BIOS settings.
In fact, it is not so difficult to do it, the main thing to find out the desired key to log in.
- First you need to turn off the computer or laptop completely;
- After that, turn it on, but do not wait for the appearance of the Windows boot picture - if it appears, then open the BIOS is already late;
- As soon as you see a welcome window with BIOS or the brand of your motherboard, you immediately need to often press the input button to the BIOS. As a rule, it can be F12 or F7. The details are better to clarify on the Internet on the manufacturer's website, or experienced by simply trying to press them all;
- As soon as you get into the BIOS shell settings, you should pay attention to the corners of the screen or the section "System Information". Here will contain a version of the shell in the graph "Bios Version".
The difficulty lies only in the fact that it is impossible to say exactly where this information is located. In each version of the shell, it is located all in a new place, however, looking around the screen, you will absolutely find these numbers.
