How to check the hard disk for errors

When you open some files and execute certain programs, the computer begins to work slower or hangs. The reason for the occurrence of such an unpleasant situation can be in the presence of errors on the hard disk. Windows operating system contains built-in disk checking, automatic definition and troubleshooting in the file system. Using these service programs, you can check and relieve hard disk and removable media from errors.

1
Close all running programs and windows with files before starting the disc check. On the "Start" button opens the "main menu" of the system, right-click. The context menu will open. Select "Open Explorer" in it. You can open the access icon on the computer to the computer - "Computer", if it is displayed.

In the next window, "Check the Disk" Local Disk \u003cdisk name:\u003e "by default, it is shifted" Automatically correct system errors "- Do not remove it, then all the problems detected when scanning files will be corrected automatically. Otherwise, the error will not be corrected, only a warning about them will be released. Click the window at the bottom of the window to start the utility - "Run".

5
Select the "Check and Restore Damaged Sector" option to perform a more thorough check of the disk partition for the presence of physical damage on it and their correction. Such a check will take much more time, as the information from the BAD blocks ("bad" blocks) is rewritten to intact sectors. You can perform both checks at the same time. In this case, logical and physical disk errors will be diagnosed.

6
If the disk is "system" checked for errors and is currently working, that is, used by the Windows operating system, the following dialog box will open, warning about the impossibility of checking now, but you can select a "disc check schedule".

Close all open windows and restart the computer's operating system. Before starting Windows, the hard disk check will automatically begin, then after the diagnostic is completed, the report will be released.

8
If the disc selected for diagnostics is not systemic, but still busy, it can be checked for errors. Preserve the desired files, close all running programs. Select "Disable forcibly" and start checking. Reboot the computer is not required. After the program is completed, you will see the test result.

Checking is faster if you do not use a computer to work during it. Even with complete confidence in the absence of disk errors, it should periodically check it. Accumulated bad sectors (for example, with a sudden power outage) may result in loss of important information.
