How to change the video card in a laptop

The advantages of using laptops are obvious, they are increasingly rapidly entering our lives. But in some cases, the performance of the laptop is not sufficient, for example, to launch a new game, its graphic system may be weak. The user makes the decision to change the video card to more powerful. In a laptop, a video card can stand in one of two species - integrated and discrete.

1
The integrated video card replacement is not subject to, since such a video system does not have its own processor and even memory, they are embedded in the central processor. Part of the processor cannot be replaced, it is a solid crystal, which means you need to change the entire CPU (central processor) to a more modern one. With this replacement, make sure that the new processor comes to the motherboard and the motherboard BIOS correctly recognizes it, otherwise the entire system will lose its performance.

2
Replacing the discrete (separate) video card is possible. Select a new video card for replacement. The model must be compatible with the motherboard, a similar model with a version number above the previous one is desirable. Video cards differ in size, check the motherboard slot that is responsible for its mounting and operation.

3
Fully disconnect the laptop. Examine the scheme of his disassembly. Unscrew the cross screwdriver all the necessary screws and separate the lower part of the laptop. Unscrew all the screws, even if it seems that they are fixing additional details. Gently, not to damage, disconnect the RAM and hard disk. They are separated easily.

4
Lift the bottom panel of the computer. Find loops leading to the panel from various devices and motherboards. Carefully, using tweezers, disconnect all the loops found and cables. Pre-remember well, to which ports they were connected. Otherwise, after assembling a laptop, some functions will be disconnected.

5
Lay the discrete video adapter and disconnect it from the motherboard. Most often, the video card is attached to a special latch. Then install a new video card in the same slot and secure the latch. Make sure it becomes correct - so that it will not interfere with the closure of the laptop.

6
Now with the help of a tweezer, attach all the disconnected loops and cables on their locations. Night laptop panel Replace and screw all the fastening screws back. Turn on the laptop and wait until the operating system is full. If the new model of the video adapter is similar to the previous model, the OS itself will determine it.

7
In the event that another video card model is connected, you may need to install the driver and the desired software from the installation disk. It will contribute to a more stable operation of a new video card. Be sure to check the temperature sensors - the fluctuation of the video adapter temperature must be within allowable limits.

The process of replacing the video card may be much more complicated. This is due to the fact that discrete models are sometimes separate. In this case, they are soldered to the motherboard, and to separate the video adapter, you need to fall out and solder the legs of a new graphic chip to contacts. Such an operation is better to entrust specialists in the service center. Only the video card of the MHM standard is easily replaced. If there is a MHM slot in the laptop, then the replacement is performed simply according to the described algorithm.
