How to change the thermostat

How to change the thermostat

Very often even the most reliable parts of the car failed. If the question does not require special effort and repair, you should not go to the car service. We just need to be patient and have free time. Let's see how to independently change the thermostat in case of its failure.

1
Initially, it should be sorted out what it is for the part and why it is needed. So, the thermostat is an essential component of the cooling devices. It creates the necessary conditions for the "effect of circulation" of the coolant in a circle. Its main purpose is to prevent overheating of important parts of the car, electrical devices, air conditioning devices, etc. The principle of operation is simple: when heated, this element opens and works in order to cool; At the desired temperature, it closes, allowing the fluid to move as a circulation.

Its main elements:

  1. Lid;
  2. Frame;
  3. Primary valve;
  4. Nozzles (in the amount of 3 pieces): To start the fluid, move it and feed to the desired compartments.

2
If you "boil" the car, it can talk about the inoperability of the thermostat. As a rule, it can be expressed that:

  • Small circle is not completely closed (as a result - engine overheating);
  • The small circle is not fully open (insufficient engine heating).

The optimal temperature of the coolant (coolant) at the full capacity of the workflow can reach up to 85-90 degrees. If you are faced with the first problem, namely overheating, you need to stop the car and follow the house, the garage, car service. In this case, untimely assistance in this case faces the engine breakdown, and this is already a big problem. In such a situation, your sensors on the car will remind themselves about themselves.

3
In order to replace the thermostat, you can not do without:

  • Screwdrivers (cruciform);
  • Wrench (12 or 13);
  • Coolant;
  • Canisters (or other capacity) by 10 liters;
  • Sealant;
  • Gloves and pairs of unnecessary rags.

Responsibly go to the purchase of a new thermostat: take it only in a proven place, follow the instructions, considering the brand and year of the car. If it is hard for you to determine the desired model, refer to the automata specialists. Acquire the thermostat "from the hands" is not recommended.

4
Carefully inspect the place of work: Decide the location of the thermostat. As a rule, it is in the plot where the nozzle (bottom or upper) is bordered by the engine. To begin with, you will need to drain the cooling fluid: unscrew the plugs and pour it into a predetermined canister with a capacity of at least 10 liters. Do not forget to fasten the traffic jams. Using a wrench or screwdriver, unscrew the clamps that hold the thermostat and its nozzles. Then remove the nozzles (upper, medium and lower). At work, be extremely careful, since the remnants of the liquid with the outbreak engine can cause you a burn. It is advisable to use special gloves.

5
So, proceed to removing the thermostat, after remembering its location. Most often it is securely attached to the engine, so you should unscrew the bolts and remove it. Do not forget to pay attention to the gasket, which is located between the engine housing and the basis of the thermostat - should be replaced with a new one.

6
A new part that you are going to install should be pre-wrapped with sealant. This is especially true of touching with nozzles and gasket. Clean the place of attachment from pollution and dust. Attach the new thermostat to the engine with the help of bolts exactly in the same position as it was previously. Then impose a clamp and secure it to the cooling system nozzles. And the final stage - filling with a new coolant. You need to pour it in several stages until the system is completely filled. Now your new thermostat is ready for work!

Do not forget to check several times how the thermostat will work after the installation so that you do not have "surprises" at an inappropriate time. To do this, you need to start the motor and inspect it for leaking. If problems arise, you should remove the thermostat and check its performance.
