How to change the detonation sensor

The detonation sensor is one of the devices designed to contribute to the optimal engine operation. It is a specific task in time to report the auto management system that the ignition advance angle is on the verge of detonation and needs correction. And if this correction is not carried out, the power of the unit is lost, and the valves can fire. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor the health of the detonation sensor, and it is not necessary to postpone it with it too. You can also conduct this procedure yourself, for which you need tools and the detonation sensor itself (new or used, but better "native").

First, decide where in your car is this sensor (by manual for use or video). Often it is placed between the halves of the cylinder block on the left of the engine (from the air valve). In foreign cars, it can be screwed into the channel of the engine cooling system. And the turbocharged units to get to the device will have to remove the intercooler.

Spend preparatory activities. First, the engine must be cold. Secondly, if your audio system has a security code, then find it, otherwise you do not start it again. Thirdly, if the sensor is screwed into the cooling path, then drain the liquid from the system to exclude its loss when the sensor is replaced.

Work start from the battery, disconnecting the negative wire from it. If you have been installed a two-contact sensor, before you remove it, disconnect the device and from the pads with wires.

Remove the sensor with the key. Depending on the mount, you may need 12, by 13 or 22.

Fresh a new sensor in his regular place. At the same time, do not cease with the tightening of the device (enough efforts about 19 nm) and do not worry about its fastening - new devices are produced with a threaded part, which is covered with a sealant with anti-penetrating properties. We restore the electrical circuit and (if necessary), fill the cooling system, return the intercooler in place.
