How to determine the clutch

To check the clutch status in cars with a manual transmission, it is not necessary to be a professional auto mechanic, it suffices to use this instruction.

1
When the engine is turned off, press the clutch pedal several times and listen. The presence of extraneous sounds (violep, grinding, knocking) is an indicator of a poor clutch state. But it is necessary to make sure that the sound does not come from the pedal return spring.

2
We start the car, not including the transfer, press the clutch pedal again. The resulting hum, rustling or noise, can be a consequence of the wear of the clutch reinforcement bearing. If the clutch drive of the cable, the noise source may be a worn cable.

3
Run the engine, leave it for 3 minutes at idle. Then squeeze the clutch, we wait for 2-3 seconds and try to enable the reverse transmission. If a sharp sound is heard, similar to a crunch, which means that the slave or pressure disc clutch is defective. Everything is much more serious if the transfer did not turn on at all. This means the exit of the clutch and the need for urgent repair. This check makes sense only if the gearbox is working normally.

Pedals.

4
With the engine turned on and the clutch pedal is pressed, we try to switch transmissions. If you can hear the crop or knock, the presence of a malfunction in the clutch mechanism or improper adjustment of the clutch pedal. We try to move, smoothly pressing the gas pedal and at the same time releasing the clutch pedal. If the car moves jerks, it can also indicate problems in the clutch.

5
Check on the go, whether the clutch does not raise. To do this, we accelerate to the third transmission and sharply davil on the gas pedal. In the event of a malfunction, the tachometer turns will grow much faster than speed on the speedometer.

6
Pay attention to the presence of the smell of Gary when the car clutch is operational. It does not always mean a clutch malfunction, especially at novice drivers who "fell" clutch. As a result, the friction pads of the slave disk are strongly heated and "burn".

7
The easiest and most accurate way to check the clutch is the next one. With the engine running, squeeze to the end of the clutch pedal. After a couple of seconds after pressing, turn on the rear speed. If the transmission turns on exactly and without effort, the grip is in order. Next, try to switch between the first and rear. We press the clutch and turn on the first transmission, without letting the clutch, we translate the lever to the neutral position. We release the clutch pedal, then press again and turn the rear gear. We repeat the cycle several times. If switching occurs smoothly and without a crunch - the clutch is properly. Otherwise, check the clutch basket and friction disk.

Sitting behind the wheel, it is important to be confident in the health of the clutch mechanism. After all, failures in his work can not only cause accelerated wear of the other parts, but also cause serious dangers on the road.
