Windows Defender - built-in in new versions of the OS antivirus, which works until the installation of other protective programs. Typically, the latter are automatically disabled by Defender when installing their own files, but there are exceptions. If your Windows Defender does not turn off, we will explain how to manage it.
Temporary disabling Windows Defender in Windows 10
Both in the eighth and in the tenth version of the popular operating system, turning off the Windows Defender begins in a similar way. To start the procedure:
- go to the "Control Panel", right click on the "Start" button (select the corresponding menu);
- in the window that opens, we are looking for a "Windows Defender" (it's easier to find if the display shows "icons");
- the "Defender'a" program will start, if the statistics say "the application does not monitor the computer," the shutdown is already called by the antivirus program;
- in the opposite case: click on "Start" -> "Parameters" (gear image) -> "Update and Security" -> "Windows Defender";
- we are looking for "real-time protection" and turn off.
Defender will turn off, but not forever, but about 15 minutes, after which it will be turned on again. If our goal is to completely remove the defender, go to the next item.
Disable Windows Defender in Windows 10 forever
There are several methods for achieving the goal. In the first case (through the editor of a local group policy):
- open the "Run" window (Win + R);
- enter the execution of the gpedit.msc command;
- click "Enter";
- in the "Editor", we go to the "Computer Configuration";
- next, open "Administrative Templates" -> "Windows components";
- on the right "EndPointProtection" to be translated into the "Enabled" state (click on the line, a new window will open, we leave a mark in front of the right item);
- in earlier versions of Windows 10, the "EndPointProtection" subsection was called "Turn Off Windows Defender";
- this method will not work in Windows 10 HOME.
Disable Windows Defender in Win 10 through the Registry
An alternative method functions equally well in all versions of the OS. To take advantage of them:
- open the "Run" window (Win + R) We write regedit;
- go along the way HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \\ SOFTWARE \\ POLICIES \\ Microsoft \\ Windows Defender;
- if this does not exist in the specified subsection, create a DWORD parameter with value 1 (for shutdown and 0 - for inclusion), name - Disableantispyware;
- Windows Defender is disabled, its icon will disappear from the tray after rebooting.
If you are worried about the pop-up notification that the anti-virus protector is disabled, click on it and in the window that opens, click on the "Do not receive notifications" item.
Remove Windows Defender from Windows 8
In this manipulation OS, it looks much easier.
- through the "Start" go to the "Control Panel";
- select the "Windows Defender" section;
- open "Parameters" -> "Administrator";
- remove the checkbox "Enable".
There are other ways to remove Defender'a from Windows, but the described must have more than enough. As an exception, in order not to configure manually, you can try third-party programs, such as "Destroy Windows 10 SPYING" or "WIN UPDATES DISABLER". They not only cut off, "defender", but also have a host of other useful features.
