Dismantling the car ignition lock is carried out for its repair or replacement to a new one. There is nothing difficult in this work, and it will take some free time, a hammer, a screwdriver and a wrench for it.
1
Depending on the place of fastening the ignition lock - on the steering column or metal casing - methods of its removal are slightly different. But the first step is always the same and consists in disabling the plus terminal of the battery and dismantling plastic decorative panels located under the steering wheel. To do this, using a thin screwdriver, unscrew all locking screws and remove the lining.
2
With a screwdriver or a long steel rod, carefully remove the decorative lining with the front part of the steering wheel (in some cars it is combined with the airbag). To do this, shove the screwdriver in the gap between the pad and the steering wheel and get it out, pulling out of the locking grooves. Having done it, you will see a nut holding the steering wheel. Using the key to 24, twist it and remove the steering wheel. As he sits on the slots, most likely you have to make some effort to do it.
3
Unscrew the screws that lock the control unit of turn signals, janitor and light, and turn off all the wires that go to it. So that there are no problems during the assembly - drew the wire connection scheme to the block or place the location of their location using labels with inscriptions.
4
Disconnecting the ignition connector, unscrew the bolt holding the lock on the steering column. In addition to the bolt, it records a special washer equipped with a spring and tube. This washer is located on the steering shaft and has an oval shape. It is knocked out with a hammer and chisel or a thick flat screwdriver. After dismantling the washer, insert the key into the ignition lock and turn to 1 position. Then carefully run it from the steering column with light tapping. After the item is in your hands, carefully inspect it for malfunctions. If there are no serious breakdowns - repair the lock and set back. If he was not maintainable - replace the new one. Installing the lock is performed in the reverse order.
5
If in your car ignition lock is attached to a metal fastener, and not to the steering column - it will be removed much easier. After dismantling decorative plastic panels, disconnect all the wires that prevent work. Turn the ignition key to the horizontal position and unscrew the screws that lock the lock to the metal casing. Then, with a thin steel rod, squeeze the pin holding the ignition lock. It is necessary to do it through the hole located on the side. After completing this operation, just pull the castle up, and it will be in your hands.
Now you know how to replace the ignition castle in your car, and you can do it without any problems, saving not only the time that would have to spend on a trip to the car service, but also some money.
