How to install water meter in the apartment

Installation of water meters in the apartment is an excellent opportunity to save on non-member utility services. In addition, the installation can be carried out independently, not appealing to the help of plumbers.

Choose turbine mechanical from a huge assortment of water meters. Such water meters are considered the most reliable and durable and, unlike electric "relatives", almost never fail. Cold water devices are marked with blue labeling, for hot red. When buying counters, pay attention to the installation of the instruments - in the set with water meters, there must be a locking crane, a strainer and a set of necessary attachments. Special attention deserves a document on the meter (passport) - it should only be original! Be sure to check the product number with the serial number specified in the passport - it must be the same. It is best to buy water meters not in the natural markets, but in specialized stores.

With self-installing water meters, consider the following recommendations of the Vodokanal:

Install the water meters in a place convenient for filling and removal of the place, it is desirable as close to the entrance pipeline;
Before mounting the water metering devices, be sure to install a special filter of mechanical cleaning (due to the dense grid, it will hold the small garbage particles, the gradder graders or rust flakes, which can lead to the incorrect operation of the meter and even damage it);
sometimes the vodokanal insists on the installation of an additional element - the check valve (it serves as the "blocker" of the readings of the apartment water meters).

After purchasing measuring instruments, you can proceed to directly installed. As a rule, preliminary agreement on the primary installation of Vodokanal does not require, all documentation on water metering devices are issued after they are installed. All that will be required of you is to apply and present passports to counters in Vodokanal. After that, they are sealing, and you can pay strictly used volume of water according to the testimony of water meters.

An independent installation of water meters is usually associated with the replacement of an old cutting (shut-off) crane located on the riser. You will have to contact the WEK - only employees of the office have the right and the ability to turn off the water supply. Be careful when mounting the shut-off reinforcement - if the crane is flowing, you will have to re-turn off the riser. Mount the introductory crane with the help of paint and a special package - for this threads of the nozzle, removing water from the riser, generously apply paint, then wrap the passage and again cover it with paint. After that, boldly screw the crane. Such sealing of threaded compounds will help avoid leaks in the next 15-20 years.

After a mechanical cleaning filter is installed. At this stage, the sealing of the compounds is no less important - attach the filter to the crane using a special plumbing thread or fum-tape. It is very important to observe the direction of installation of the filter (on each of the elements of the kit the arrows are drawn, which indicate the direction of movement of the flow of water - all arrows must "look" in one direction). Then proceed to the installation of nozzles with cape nuts (they are also called "American women"). As a rule, these additional elements are sold complete with water meters. One of the nozzles turn into the filter using the pass or fum-tape, the second one in the next water meter check valve. Do not forget about the arrow drawn on the valve, otherwise the water simply will not go to your water supply. "American" twist on the side of the tail of the arrow.

After installing nozzles with cape nuts, proceed to the mount of the meter. On the side of the device housing, there is also an arrow - during installation, it should "look" in the direction from the locking crane. In the "American" insert a special gasket, then screw the nut on the counter. For cold water meter, use a high-quality rubber gasket, for a hot water meter - a pairsty (it is not as flexible as rubber, but more durable). On the other side of the water meter, connect the check valve with a pre-installed on it with a precipitant nut.

The last stage is connecting the set of devices to the apartment water supply. The easiest way to connect the design to the metal-plastic wiring is to do this in the reversed valve, a limit with an external thread is fixed. For the insertion of the counter in wiring made of metal pipes, it will be necessary extra time, a special tool (various modular keys, a bollard and a manual thread-cutting machine) and the ability to use them. That is why it is more expedient to replace metal pipes into more modern metal-plastic. At the end of the installation, check the system performance.
