The drivers on the computer help components work correctly, not to create discomfort and adapt to other components in time. In this regard, drivers are updated as often as the developer is able to release them. This is due to the fast pace of development of technology: if your driver does not support all modern devices, then the component becomes useless. It often happens that the driver needs to be rolled up. In this article you will learn how to do this.
Why roll back the driver
Imagine that after the next update of the video card driver, the image suddenly became faded, blurry and does not show some elements of the screen at all. Of course, the problem can lie everywhere, but it is more logical to associate this with the renewal of the driver. Your component can be already too old or worn out, or on a computer something creates a conflict between another utility and a new driver.
To avoid repeating such a situation, the driver is better to roll back to their original state and not update.
How to return the former driver
For the rollback of the driver, you will not need third -party software. Everything can be done in Windows environment, however, kickbacks and drivers are quite dangerous if the procedure is performed by an inexperienced user. Follow the instructions for sure and do not deviate from it.
- Go to the “control panel” through the start menu.
- Put the sections on the “category” page. This can be done in the upper right corner of the window.
- Just click on a blue triangle and set the value you need.
- After that, find and select the “Equipment and Sound” section.
- In the next window, you need to click on the “Device Manager” division. If the opening of a new window does not occur, then most likely you are in the guest account.
- Go out and go to the administrative account, repeating all the points again.
- In the device manager, pay attention to small triangles from the left side of the window. Click on one of them to deploy the subsection and look at the devices drivers.
- Suppose you need to roll back the driver on the video card, which is most often happening.
- Click with the right mouse button on your video card and select the “Properties” section. Do not confuse the discrete and integrated video cards, since the installation of new drivers most often occurs on a discrete one.
- In the small window that appears, find the “Driver” tab. Among the many buttons, find “turn off”, and next to the line “If the device does not work after updating the driver ...”.
- Click on this button once. Agree with the warning of the system. To start the process, you will need to reboot the computer, in some cases you have to do two to three times.
- If you do not have a “disable” button in this window, then you have not yet updated this driver at all.
If the rollback did not help
The rollback can be made completely manually: delete your current driver at all, download the old version of the driver on the official website of the component and install it. This will work if the previous point did not help you.
Go to the same window, but now click on the button at the very bottom of the “delete”. This may also require rebooting the system.
After that, go to the official website of the developer and find the old driver you need. Save it on your computer, then install it.
Remember this component and continue to not update it if you are sure that the new driver adversely influenced the system. Better wait for another fresh version of the driver and try it.
