To install a new operating system directly from the memory card, you need to perform several preparatory actions: create the image of the Windows 8.1 installer file or any other version, make an entry on the flash drive in the bootable mode. Perhaps in words this process looks complicated, however, in reality, everything happens much easier.
Where to get the Windows 8.1 installer
It should be understood that the Windows operating system is paid and you need to purchase each new patch from Microsoft for a certain amount. The easiest way to do this is on the Internet on the official website company, however, it may happen that you already have a DVD disc with Windows 8.1 or the image of the system on the computer. Then the stages of recording are slightly different.
You will need:
- Program for creating and recording images of Windows. You can pay attention to the program Ultraiso, Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120. Daemon Tools Lite will be used in this article. It is easy to use, free and has all the necessary functions;
- The image of Windows 8.1, if you do not have it yet, you have to do it yourself;
- Actually a flash drive with a volume of more than 4 GB;
- About three hours of free time.
You can download the program on official website. Choose the Lite version, as it is most optimal for the work of inexperienced users only with ISO images.

How to make a Windows 8.1 image
If you do not have an ISO of the operating system, you will have to make it yourself. This is not difficult, especially if you use this instruction.
After installing Daemon Tools Lite, the program will appear in the start panel or on the desktop. Run it.

In the window that opens, you need to find the “New Image” section. It is here that images of ISO and other formats from disks and ordinary files are created.

If the operating system is on the disk, then select the “New image from the disk” section, if you have separate Windows 8.1 operating systems on your computer, which are not assembled in the image, then click “Create an image with data”.

Suppose you needed to make an image from the disk. First pay attention to the “Format” tab. If you are dealing with the Windows system, then you always need to choose ISO. After that, insert the disk into the drive, wait until the program recognizes it. Click “Start”.

If you are dealing with separate files, then it’s still easier:
- First set the image format on ISO;
- Then click on the plusk in the right corner of the screen to upload files.

Find separate files on your computer to create an image. Select them all and click “Open”.

Now you can only choose the directory in which the files will be saved. After that, click “Start”.
Creating an image can take from several minutes to an hour, depending on the performance of your computer.

How to make a boot flash drive with windows 8.1
Now that you have the image of the Windows 8.1 system, you can proceed with its recording on the memory card. To do this, find the “USB” section in the program, and then “create a boot USB”.

First click on the “Image” tab.

On your computer, find the image of Windows 8.1 and choose it.

Under the line with the image, click on the “Windows” boot image. Make sure that the file size does not exceed the size of your flash drive. Insert the flash and press the “start”.

Also, you can protect your flash drive with a password in the “Protect USB” section if you are afraid that they will use it.

Windows 8.1 installation process from a flash drive
If you are already familiar with the process of installing the operating system from the disk, then this will not be difficult for you.
First enter the BIOS. You can do this by turning off the computer and at the time of turning on by holding the right button. As a rule, this is F7 or F12, check for your model.
After that, select “Advanced Bios Features” in the BIOS.

Here you can choose the sequence of data loading from devices. It is necessary to make sure that the data from the flash drive is the first to load. To do this, put your USB in the FIRST BOOT DEVICE line. After that, reboot the computer.

The installation process will begin immediately. You practically do not need to take part in it, just follow the instructions and wait. The computer can reload it on its own repeatedly. After installation, change the First Boot Device back to Hard Disk.
