How to clean coins

In the collections of numismatists, there is usually no one dozen valuable coins that have long lost their freight look. They can be covered with rust and mud, but still remain expensive to the heart of the collector. After careless cleaning, the coins may be completely spoiled, so it is important to learn how to do it right.

Depending on the selected method of cleaning, we may need:

  • soft felt;
  • paper towel;
  • genuine bristle brush;
  • ammonia (or lemon juice);
  • a weak solution of hydrochloric acid;
  • soda;
  • vinegar;
  • soap;
  • thin needle.

Copper coins can be quickly and safely cleaned using a conventional soap solution. To do this, you need to dissolve soap in a liter of warm water, add one tablespoon of vinegar and put coins into a liquid for two hours. After time, get them and carefully proceed to cleaning, using a soft brush from natural bristles. Repeat the procedure about 3-5 times, depending on the degree of contamination. At the end, rinse coins in clean water and carefully dry them.

Silver coins are easy to clean using ammonia or lemon juice. Finish the coins in any of two tools for an hour. Next, it is pretty riding them under running water and dry paper towel. Also silver can be cleaned using soda. Apply it to the surface of the coins, wet and gently do. Do not forget to rinse.

Coins made of zinc and iron more arrogant in care. To return them the primordial look, you will have to use an acute needle. All rust from the surface should be carefully removed manually, then put coins into a weak solution of hydrochloric acid. After dissolving the plaque, rinse numismatic copies under running water and wait until they finally dried. For impeccable shine, it is recommended to rub the coins with a cut of a soft felt.

Never use solutions of aggressive acids, brushes made of metal bristles and all sorts of abrasive cleaning agents for cleaning coins. The more delicate you will take care of the coins, the longer they will please you with their impeccable appearance.
