How to determine the power of braking

The maintenance state of the brake system is the main condition for the safe movement of the car on the road. One of the parameters characterizing the performance of the brakes is the braking force, that is, the effort required to complete the vehicle stop. According to the approved standards, this value should not be below 59% of the mass of the car. There are two main methods for determining braking force.

You can determine the power of braking in road conditions. Tests are carried out on a coating of concrete with the addition of asphalt or cement. The surface should be dry and clean. Pre-engine must be disconnected from the transmission and turn off the drives of additional leading bridges.

Start movement. Fix the scored speed. At a predetermined mark, make extra braking, once pressing the brake pedal. After a complete stop, measure the length of the braking path. Repeating the process several times, calculate the average value of the braking path. If for some reason the car deviated from the straight trajectory, the result of the measurement is not taken into account.

Calculate the value of the braking force according to the following algorithm. The value of the speed erected into the square is multiplied by a car. The resulting value is divided into the twin-length length of the braking path. The end result and will be equal to the power of braking.

A more accurate measurement of braking force is made on a special stand. The wheels of the car are placed on the bench drums. Measurements are made separately on the front and rear wheels. With the help of drums, the wheels are spinning to a certain speed.

After that, the brake mechanism is activated, and special sensors measure the level of countering wheels by rotational drum motion. The resulting indicator is expressed as a percentage of the car's weight. It is the magnitude of the power of braking.
