Peonies are rather unpretentious perennial plants. The bushes included in complete maturity will bloom in any case, even if they are not cropped at all. Nevertheless, it is necessary to care for the bushes of herbaceous or tree peonies. Trimming bushes stimulates a friendly spring former, which is very important for luxurious flowering.
Types of peonies
Two types of peonies differ not only by their appearance, but also the time of their trimming.
- Pyons are grassy - these are big magnificent bushes with a thick herbaceous stem. This stem grows in spring from the ground and buds are formed on it. The trimming of these types of peonies is carried out only in the fall and it is done almost under the very root.
- Tree peonies - powerful bushes with solid branches resembling solid currant shoots. These plants are trimmed only in the spring and they remove some patients or frozen shoots. Tree peonies resemble fluffy compact trees and every year they are becoming more and more, i.e. Build many new branches.
Autumn trimming of deciduous peonies
Proper cutting technology is as follows.
- As soon as the peonies are wondering in the spring, remove all the formed seed boxes. Do it simultaneously with all the boxes, which can be several pieces on one shoot. You should not remove the ultimate secret, if there is another or pair of flowers on the stem. Wait for a complete blowing of the entire bush and only then begin to put it in order.
- Flowering peonies usually clogged bushes, i.e. Their petals, clothes, fall on the green leaves. These pink and white petals with bushes are removed. If you do not do this, then during summer rains under the petals will be gathering moisture and bushes risk catching some fungal infection.
- After a complete bunch of bushes, cut down all seed boxes, making cut after a sheet located under the bottom box. This trimming will happen approximately at the end of May or early June.
- After trimming seed boxes, take care of the peonies until the autumn, as you do it with other plants in the garden. Water them, loose and feed the fertilizers.
- Start at the autumn trimming at the moment when the leaves on the peonies will acquire a brown tint and the stems will begin to be slightly to the ground. This is usually happening in the September-October month. Gently raising the stems, cut them off their height of 5-10 cm heights with a height of hemp in the spring visually help to find planted bushes.
- After full autumn trimming of peonies, pionery sticking out of the ground with ordinary wood ash. For one hand, it will be prevented from all sorts of spring diseases, and on the other hand, it will contribute to the laying of a large number of flower kidney.
- If you live in the area where winter decrease in temperature is below 20 degrees, then peonies growing, sprinkled ashes, additionally cover the coniferous or straw bedding.
Trimming tree peonies
As already mentioned above, peonies with solid shoots, in the fall do not fit at all. An exception can be a sanitary cut, for example, some kind of broken branch or the one that is too knocked out of a beautiful round bush. But the protruding branch still should not be touched even in the fall. It is better to tie it in any additional support, drove into the ground. Or such a branch can pull into a branch growing in the center of the bush with a rope.
Spring trimming of tree peonies do already after kidney swell on them. Then the cut in winter and dried in the spring of the tip immediately over the kidney.
