How to find a file

Beginners PC users spend a lot of strength, time and nerves, looking for in the huge number of folders to be lost documents, photos and other information. However, the operating system includes a convenient search function. Consider on the example of Windows 7, how to find a file on a computer.

First, remember the approximate name, size, approximate save date on the computer and the file format you want to find.

Check out frequently used file formats:

  • musical compositions - .midi, .mp3, .wav;
  • film and rollers - .avi, .3gp, .flv, .mp4, .mpeg, .mov;
  • text files - .txt;
  • word documents - .doc, .docx;
  • books, tutorials or other electronic documentation - .pdf;
  • photos, pictures and pictures - .jpg, .png, .gif, .bmp, .tif;
  • archives - .rar, .iso;
  • excel spreadsheets - .xls, .sxc;
  • presentations - .pptx;
  • applications and programs - .exe.

Next, press the keyboard combination "Win" + "F", where "Win" is a button with the Windows logo. In the window that opens, refer to the top search line on the right and enter the alleged file name.

If the search did not give results, then activate the estimated section (disk) to search and add or change the search filter from below the proposed. Choose:

  • View;
  • Date of change;
  • Type of;
  • The size.

That's actually, this is the functionality of the search system. Experiment with the filter settings in the search page of the "Search" window and a wanted file will give yourself to know in a matter of minutes.
