Covering material for beds - how to choose

Covering material called agrofibre or spanbond appeared on the market not so long ago. However, every year his fans are becoming more and more. The summer residents of the Highborn have a taste and cover almost all the beds with this material. Spanbond protects seedlings from frost and strong sun, and adult plants on the beds with agriculture do not suffer from weeds. And they are wrapped in bushes and trees, they make special tunnels from it for roses to prepare plants for harsh winter.

What the covering material looks like

Spanbond is the so -called non -woven canvas, which consists of many subtle fibers of cellulose composed with each other. Some manufacturers of covering material are additionally treated with special substances that cut off ultraviolet. Advantages of spanningboard: lightness, environmental friendliness, air and moisture appreciation. Plants under agricultural light do not break, because it is almost a business. Through the agricultural fiber, the plants can be watered, and under the covering material the plants breathe perfectly. All this applies to the white spanboard, and it can be placed on the beds directly on top of the seedlings or make small tunnel greenhouses out of it.

Black covering material does not miss the light, so that under it the plants do not develop. This property is successfully used to inhibition of weeds. Black spanbond can be laid on empty beds, then weeds under it will simply die. And you can make holes in it and plant in them, for example, strawberries. In this case, the bushes will be upstairs and will develop, and weeds will die under the bottom.

Types of lifting material

Spanbond is produced by various firms, but their views of all manufacturers are exactly the same. This is worth considering when buying. It is worth paying attention only to what vehicle agricultural fiber (in this case it is called density). It depends on the density how the agricultural fiber will protect plants from certain natural disasters so:

  • density 17 g per 1 sq.m. This agrofibre is only white. It protects plants from frost to - 3 degrees. It is best used inside polycarbonate, glass or film greenhouses;
  • density 30 g per 1 sq.m. Also white, but holds frosts up to - 5 degrees. In the southern regions, this agricultural clinic can be placed on open beds, and in more northern ones - only in greenhouses;
  • density 42 g per 1 sq.m. White covering material will protect plants from frost to - 7 degrees. Since this spanbond is more dense, it withstands and suddenly fallen spring snow in open beds;
  • density 60 g per 1 sq.m. It happens not only white, but also black. Plants under white covering material will withstand frost - 10 degrees. Black attracts the sun's rays and the earth under it warms up well. As mentioned above, weeds do not grow under the black spanbond.

Given the climatic conditions of each particular region and the presence of open or beds in greenhouses and you need to choose the type of agriculture. Three types of covering material (17 g per 1 sq.m, 30 g per 1 sq.m and 42 g per 1 sq.m are mainly used to cover seedlings and low young plants. More dense white (60 g per 1 sq.m. ) Suitable for protecting seedlings and vegetables in the northern regions and for wrapping them with bushes and trees or the structure of shelters for roses before winter.

How to use covering material

When buying spanbond, you need to know the size of future beds. It is better that the width of the covering material is 20 cm larger than the width of the bed. 10 centimeters on each side are enough to fix the spanbond brackets to the ground. You can water plants directly through the material, but with a watering can with a good spray. After the seedlings grow and passes the threat of frosts, the material is removed from the beds, rinses in ordinary water and dried on a rope. Then it is cleaned in a dry place until the next summer season.
