How to choose an acid battery

From the correctly selected battery, it depends mostly how easy it will be a car, how reliable it will be in operation. The most applied today is a lead acid battery. There are several parameters to pay attention to when choosing.

1
The main battery efficiency indicator is voltage. For car maintenance, 12V is enough.

2
The next parameter is the battery capacity, which determines the amount of energy produced by the device per hour. The capacitance value is indicated on the battery case. It should be borne in mind that this value is achieved at a temperature of + 25c. The value of the required battery capacity usually recommends the manufacturer of the car in the instructions attached to it. When choosing a battery, some deviations from the specified container are allowed, but only up to the increase. If you install a battery with smaller characteristics, you will inevitably have problems starting the engine. You can set a battery with a capacity, slightly exceeding the recommended manufacturer. This will create conditions for a more efficient start.

3
It is necessary to pay attention to the ability to maintain the battery. If there is a rejected cover on the polypropylene case, then with time it will be possible to change the electrolyte in it and thereby increase the service life. But at the same time it should be noted that the independent replacement of the active liquid is a time-consuming, complex and relatively expensive process. Therefore, it is more optimal to purchase a one-time maintenanceable battery, equipped with a ventilation and condensation system, fully ready for operation.

4
If the battery is already purchased, you need to check the shelf life. It should be no more than 1 year from the date of release until the moment of sale. It is important in what conditions the batteries are stored at the point of implementation. In case of storage at elevated temperatures, the battery is discharged faster.

5
It is necessary to check the tightness of the case, especially under the plug and in the locations of the battery contacts, which must be covered by a layer of lead oxide and not have scratches or traces from terminals. The presence of the latter says that the battery may have already been exploited. We can not verify the voltage on the battery contact with a special multimeter. It should not be less than 12 V. The housing is not allowed traces of shocks and damage.

Naturally, when buying a battery, keep a check and a warranty card, as some defects can be identified only during operation. A careful approach to the choice of battery will save from unpleasant surprises on the way.
