How to choose facade paint

Special requirements are presented to the facade paint, and this is quite reasonable. After all, no one will be delighted with the need to spend the cosmetic repair of external walls every year. That is why the correctly chosen, high-quality paint is the key to aesthetic and well-kept appearance of the house for a long time.

Always pay attention to the composition of the paint. Its main component can be organic solvents (White spirit and the like) or water. In the first case, we have a deal with high weather resistance, the ability to use paint even in frost, but at the same time toxicity. Famous varieties of such a coating - Effectplast, Luxe Masonry Paint, AK-124.

Water soluble paints have a lot of varieties. They differ in the first place, on targeted use, as well as other factors:

Vinyl: Finncolor, Johnstones. Today is not too popular, because it is too absorbed by moisture, quickly contaminated, susceptible to mold and mechanical damage. Their advantage is low price.
Acrylic: Ceresit, Triora, Aura Fasad Expo. Dust on such paint sets insignificantly, but it has low vapor permeability. Good keeps color. It is preferable to apply on concrete or cement-fibrous plates.
Silicone: Tikkurila, Ceresit. Practically do not absorb water, allow the rain to drain along the wall and at the same time perfectly clean the facade. Have high vapor permeability: thanks to the porous coating structure, the house seems to be breathing. Low on a brick, concrete, cement-fibrous stove, lime, cement, any old paint.
Lime: Ceboart Pintura, Tikkurila. Paints are cheap, short-lived, mainly used to restore buildings previously lined with calculated plaster. Their undoubted plus is in the disinfecting properties that prevent the formation of mold and fungus.
Silicate: Ceresit, Silcolor, Greinplast. Capable to withstand an aggressive atmosphere and fungi. Have a modest palette, complex in drawing, removed with difficulty. Will not hold on acrylic or silicone surface. But perfectly fall on the same or lime paint.
Cement: Tikkurila, Trampolino, Technocryl. Weather-resistant, vapor-permeable. Applied on ceramic and silicate bricks, cement, limestone, cement-limestone and silicate plaster. Compared to limestone paints, differ in the brittleness of the coating, as a result of which they quickly peel.

In addition to the composition, carefully study the remaining labeling on the label. The amount of binder affects the quality of the paint directly. The more such a substance (often it is a resin - vinyl, acrylic, silicate or silicone, less often - liquid glass, lime, cement), the better.

Light resistance is another important indicator for facade paint. Over time, almost every coating is fading, but dyes-resistant dyes retain the original shade for a long time. Such a characteristic is mainly acrylic or acrylic-silicone solutions. On banks, especially light-resistant compositions, contains relevant information.

The vapor permeability referred to above is a few options:

grams / square meter (optimal indicator - 130 and higher);
coefficient μ (1400-1500 units);
sD coefficient (0.11-0.05 and below).

Resistance to abrasion implies the amount of facade cleaning, which paint can withstand and not lose a decent view. Focus on 5000 cycles.

Pollution resistance is definitely for each paint. Silicone solutions have the highest indicator of moisture, slightly smaller - acrylic and silicate. On the glossy paint, the dust almost does not delay. And the darker shades of a priori look clean.

On the packaging of a high-quality product, all the main indicators must be placed, including the cost consumption. When choosing paint, do not trust only advertising or seller's advice. Read all the information on the label, compare, take into account the form of the base that you are going to paint.
