The passport is issued for a certain period, after which the document is subject to replacement. So, for old passports, this period is 5 years, and for a new sample (in the presence of electronic information carrier) - 10 years. Sometimes the passport has to be changed to a new one until its expiration of its validity period, by virtue of certain reasons.

If the term of the passport has expired, when it is replaced with a new old document, it is not withdrawn. If the reason for the replacement of the document is different - the official of the FMS of Russia when issuing a new passport is the old. There are such cases when it is unprofitable to part with the previous document: for example, there are existing visas of foreign countries. In this case, according to a written statement, the old passport can remain at its owner, but it will be an annuling mark, and the number on the page with the signature of the owner is cut out.

lack of free space on the pages of the passport for the marks of the border authorities, the simplication of foreign visas;
changing personal data: surnames, patronymic names;

If the replacement of the passport occurs in the event of a change in personal data (most often it is associated with the change of the name when marriage marriage), then initially a citizen of the Russian Federation should replace the internal passport. In principle, the passport issued to previous installation data will remain valid and on it can be returned abroad, but it is better to exchange it at the first opportunity.

If the passport was lost, it should immediately declare incident in the FMS at the place of residence (stay). When applying, prepare such documents:
photo;
russian passport, a copy of it;
2 copies of the statement;
receipt of payment of duty (2500 rubles);
military ID, its copy (or certificate of the military commissariat) for men 18-27 years;

The passport will be ready month later, but for an additional charge you can speed up this process twice.
