How to start a diesel in frost

How to start a diesel in frost

With the onset of cold weather, it is often possible to observe how motorists are trying to start their "iron horses". And, if there are no big problems with gasoline, then the owners of diesel cars have to fall out.

How to start a diesel in frost - possible problems

Not always only frost is the culprit not the launch of the machine, other factors can contribute to this:

  • Embossed fuel.
  • Unreliable battery.
  • Candles of improper quality.
  • Faulty injector and starter.

Before the arrival of cold weather, it is better in a reliable workshop to check the engine operation, change the oil to suitable for low temperatures. It is necessary to achieve recommended levels of indicators. So that the launch of the diesel engine in the frost is still held, the battery voltage must be at least 12.5 V.

Methods for launching a diesel engine in the frost

  • Not started immediately - without panic. Slushing the gas pedal We try to start the machine starter. 10-15 seconds and take a break for 1-2 minutes to give a rest to the battery. Then repeat the attempt. I did not start with the third attempt - go to another method. It is not worth repeating many times, and then the battery will be discharged or the starter work will deteriorate.
  • "Cursting". It is used at a low charge of the battery. To do this, only the wires and a non-indifferent driver will be needed, with your headed car. After starting, it is not necessary to immediately turn off the ignition, you must give the machine to work for several minutes, and better an hour, to complete the battery charging. Then there will be no problems in the future.

  • Another method for AKB. In this case, it must be removed and recharge at home. As you know, in the cold time, the diesel engine requires more electricity to start and at least a slightly discharged battery will lose its power faster. You can remove the battery and store it at home, but if you have to use the car daily, then this option is not the most convenient.
  • Tow. Very dangerous way of launch, which is better to apply in the most extreme case. With the use of "Tolkach", sharp jums will be inevitable, which in turn can lead to the rupture of the timing belt. And this will entail a very expensive repair.

  • If possible, install the autonomous preheater. This system is installed before the fuel filter and in a few minutes will warm up the fuel to the operating state.
  • The use of special additives and antigels. At reduced temperatures, diesel fuel thick and forms a precipitate, paraffin. Mixing with diesel, such funds do not dissolve paraffin, but simply do not give it to grow. Deciding to take advantage of the additive, it is worth carefully reading the label and remember that it is necessary to pour it into the tank at a plus temperature.

  • Drivers of the "old school", not trusting modern antigels, apply kerosene. In practice, the result is the same, the kerosene does not cause damage to the fuel system. Only add it is not more than 30% of the total fuel volume (for 10 liters of diesel - 3 liters of kerosene).
  • For vehicles with an automatic transmission, an oil can become another problem. With a strong frost, it is significantly thick and also requires heating. But now in abundance, oils of various brands are sold just for winter time of the year and therefore there should be no problems here.
  • And what to do when the wasolar has already frozen? Here you have to act more largely. Cover the car with a warm case, under the bottom there is a thermal gun. We'll have to wait until the engine temperature reaches at least 0 degrees. Some motorists breed fire under the bottom of the machine, but this method is not safe.

It is not always possible to put a car into a warm garage and with the onset of colds of lovers of diesel cars can wait for unpleasant "surprises". But high-quality fuel and in time prepared by the car for winter, significantly reduce the risk to stay without a car and go to work in the morning on foot.
