How to choose a drive

Quite often, motorists think about the question with which drive to purchase a new car. There are three types of car drives - rear -wheel drive (classic), front and four -wheel drive.

1
The rear -wheel drive is considered a classic. This is due to the fact that the first cars were precisely rear -wheel drive and for many years only this scheme for driving a car in motion was used. It has a number of advantages: almost perfect weighting on the axes, the lack of inertial effects of wheeled drives on the elements of steering, which allows jewelry to control the trajectory of movement. Also, at a sharp start, additional loading of the rear (leading) axis occurs, the car, as it were, cries on the rear wheels, which, in turn, allows you to move as quickly as possible. It is for this rear -wheel drive that athletes love so much. However, with all its advantages, the rear -wheel drive also has a number of innate, unstable, disadvantages. It is complicated and roads in production, rear -wheel drive cars are heavier than their classmates with front -wheel drive. Also, the design of the rear -wheel drive body has a central tunnel passing along the cabin almost the entire length, which negatively affects the comfort of planting passengers from behind. Well, most importantly - rear -wheel drive cars are prone to drift the rear axle in severe conditions, especially in dirt, snow and ice.

2
The front -wheel drive is currently used for more than 70% of the cars manufactured. It was widespread due to the cheapness in production and a much better course stability compared to the rear -wheel drive structure. Also, the front -wheel drive car is much more spacious and comfortable. This is due to the fact that there is no cardan tunnel inside the cabin, since there is no cardan itself - the torque indulges from the gearbox located in the engine compartment in front of the driver, directly on the drive wheels using hinges of equal angular velocities (shrimp). However, in a barrel of honey, not without a spoonful of tar - the front -wheel drive is not relieved of congenital shortcomings. There are vibrations from the hard ligament of the power unit with a gearbox and drive drives, the transfer of reactive force from rotating drives and wheels to the steering, as well as unloading the front axis at a sharp start, which leads to slipping the front wheels. But the most unpleasant is the demolition of the front axle with a sharp discharge of gas in a complex bend. That is, the principles of control of the front -wheel drive car are significantly different from the control of the rear -wheel drive.

3
There is also an all -wheel drive scheme of car design. In this case, the torque of the engine is transmitted to both axes of the car. This provides excellent terminal stability and unique control of the car. There are two types of all -wheel drive - connected and constantly turned on. Both have both their advantages and disadvantages.

4
A car with all -wheel drive in normal mode is a monotive car (both front -wheel drive and rear -wheel drive), in which the drive to an additional axis is connected only in emergency traffic modes, for example: when moving along a slippery road or with aggressive passage of complex turns along the trajectory from variable radius. Connection can occur both automatically and in manual mode. It all depends on the design features of the transmission of your car.

5
In a car with constant all -wheel drive, torque is always transmitted to both axes of the car. That is, all four wheels are leading. Moreover, sometimes the torque can automatically redistribute between the axes, depending on the modes of movement, which ensures the maximum possible safety and comfort. Almost a car is ready to instantly respond to a change in road conditions. Also, cars with all -wheel drive are maximum cross -country ability. However, this type of road drive in production and maintenance. It is quite heavy, therefore it is used in cars with powerful engines and reinforced chassis and body. So you will have to forget about fuel saving. But you have to pay for safety and comfort.

With what type of drive to buy a new car - here everyone chooses. All types of drives have both advantages and disadvantages. It makes no sense to buy an all -wheel drive SUV if you need a car to move around the city from home to work. And if you drive a lot over long distances, and a fan of the sports style of driving, then an all -wheel drive sports car is your choice. Certain drive skills with a specific type of drive are also required. So, if you moved from a classic rear -wheel drive car to a serious all -wheel drive, do not be lazy and pass the simplest courses of contracoming training in your car. Good luck on the roads!
