How often did we have that the electrohem assembled on new details did not work? The quality of components from the store, and even more so with the radios, often leaves much to be desired, and about the electrocomponents that have already been to use and speak. In this case, check them in good condition before use will be exactly not superfluous. Today we will talk about how to check for the goodness of a thyristor.
What is a thyristor?
Thyristor is a semiconductor device that is made by classical single-crystal technology. In the built-in crystal there are several (most often three) P-N of the transition, which have fully opposite resistant states. Mostly, thyristors are used as an electronic key and can successfully replace such radio elements as a mechanical relay. The main advantages of thyristor are:
- Smooth and adjustable inclusion.
- Monitoring the speed of the operating current increases.
- Excellent integrability in complex schemes.
- Lack of sparking and interference.
- Compact details.
- No need to constantly apply the control signal.
Checking a thyristor without a multimeter
If there was no multimeter at hand, but you need to check the thyristor, there is an easy way to do it. You need to take a conventional battery and a light bulb for 1.5V and connect them sequentially through a thyristor. When the control current is applied to a thyristor, the light bulb should turn around. Next, you should turn off the battery, but save the source of the control current, if the light bulb continues to burn, it means that its P-N transition is well. If there are no light bulbs and batteries, then the surest way to check the thyristor is using a digital or analog multimeter.
Thyristor checking multimeter
The first thing to do before checking is to make sure that there are fresh, unspecified batteries in the device. You can check it yourself by the device itself, it is not required to measure the voltage in it. Further actions for checking as follows:
- Install the multimeter into the call mode. Since the operating current is not enough to open the P-n of the transition, then the resistance will be high, and there will be no current. In this case, the multimeter should show the number 1, if so, then the transition does not break down and you can proceed to other checks.
- Not switching multimeter mode Connect the control electrode with anode. In this case, the current becomes sufficient to open the P-n of the transition and the resistance decreases sharply. The device at the same time should show numbers less than a unit, which corresponds to the open state of the thyristor. Thus, the service control element is checked.
- Overcoming the contacts and on the display of the multimeter should again light up the number 1. In this case, the thyristor cannot continue to be open, because the device does not produce a sufficient current force to trigger a thyristor by retention current. You cannot check this parameter using the multimeter.
- We change the polarity on the instrument and try to produce the same manipulations, the check will be unsuccessful. So we can identify the absence of a reverse breakdown in a thyristor.
- You can also check the thyristor on sensitivity. To do this, paragraphs 1-3 should be performed with an ohmmeter mode on the multimeter, and not the transverse mode. To begin with, the melting should be set on the sensitivity x1, then at x10 and so until after turning off the control current, the transition will not close. The smaller the current deduction, the thyristor is considered more sensitive. When choosing parts and the ability to check, you need to prefer the thyristors, the sensitivity of which is higher.
If the thyristor is in the composition of any mounting scheme, there is no need to drink it to check, it suffices to turn off the control electrode.
As you can see, check the thyristor at home quite easily and does not require much time. Do not neglect the inspection of the radio components before assembling complex schemes. Several seconds spent at the beginning will help save time spent then to detect the part that does not work already on the collected scheme. And finally, visual video instructions on this process, good luck in montization.
