Checking the gas distribution belt is the desired car maintenance element. The procedure is quite simple, if compared with the replacement of this part of the car. Incompretable belt update can have serious consequences for the engine correct.
Checking the timing belt - the technical side of the issue
Condition - the degree of wear - the timing belt is made by visual assessment of the latter. To this end, you:
- Remove the plastic screen and the protection of the motor, covering the pump, crankshaft, camshafts, tensioning roller and the belt itself.
- Defense is removed by reloading the corresponding bolts.
- Produce a visual belt inspection (both with outdoor and inverse surface) for possible damage.
- If the belt state does not cause questions, start at the diagnosis of the degree of belt tension. Scroll on 1-2 turns of the crankshaft in the direction of the clock, and after - a little back. After, putting the effort to the tolik, try to carry out the belt turn on the segment of the crankshaft pulleys - camshaft. If the angle of rotation was 90 - the tension is normal. In case of deviation, the tension should be adjusted (zoom in or decrease) using the roller of the same name.
When to check the timing belt
How often and why do you need to check the timing belt? If you notice deviations in the usual (normal) operation of the car, the question of a visit to the station is not worth it.
- A direct indication for replacing the timing belt is also the presence of damage on its surface in the form of cracks, scratches, detacies and scuffs.
- Hardening belt. In this case, its inner side is solid and has a characteristic bright shine. The decrease in elasticity leads to a weaker belt contact with the pulley of the gas distribution node. How to check the degree of belt hardness? To do this, take a screwdriver and put pressure to handle to the belt surface. The appearance of dents testifies to sufficient elasticity of the verifiable part.
- The indirect signs of wear of the gas distribution belt are the appearance of various kinds of noise in the motor, excessive heating of the latter, as well as the emergence of problems at the start stage.
How often do prophylactic inspections and checks? The frequency of the belt replacement depends on how often you are still exploiting the car. Checking the state of the gas distribution belt is made approximately every 40,000 mileage, and the replacement is at least 1 time per 40,000 mileage. If a decision is made on replacing the belt, it is recommended to update both rollers, because It is not known whether they will withstand the following 90 thousand km (most often no), and through time the replacement of exclusively rollers is inappropriate. Moreover, the jamming of the worn roller will lead to the leakage of the timing belt and, at best, stop the engine. With a more dramatic scenario, the motor overhaul will be required. Assessing the state of the belt, pay attention also to wear:
- Crankshaft and camshafts. If there are tracks on them, the leakage of the part should also be replaced.
- Pump. Pay special attention to the possible existence of leakage.
- Drive belts. The formation of cracks on their inner surface indicates the need to replace the part.
- Valve cover laying.
During the verification of the timing belt, the latter needs to be removed, which means you will get access to the above-mentioned parts of the car.
