Fake coins - the inevitable problem of collectors. There are a number of tips offered by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and Professional Coin Graducal Services (PCGS) that will help to distinguish a genuine coin from fake.
Look for Sow.
Fake coins usually have cast seams that can be seen with the naked eye. Fake coins may also have labeled holes. In addition, many coins have a complex design or texture, which is associated with this particular coin and its series. If something in a coin seems doubtful, it is better to look for the desired copy elsewhere.
Pay special attention to labeling
In most cases, fake coins do not contain all the necessary signs of the mint, corresponding to a certified genuine coin. In such a situation, be sure to find as much information about the total marks on the coin and its design. When examining the golden or silver coin that you are going to purchase if some marks cause suspicion, ask whether the seller has documents to confirm their statement that the real coin is genuine.
Determine the relief
Fake makers are difficult to recreate the relief of the coin, it is 100% coincident with the original. Usually fake coins are too high or too low. The future buyer can check the authenticity of the coin, setting it into a row with coins from the same series. If the coin is knocked out from the row, you have reason to show caution with the purchase.
Interaction with magnet
Magnets do not attract such elements as gold and silver. Therefore, if the magnet attracts a coin, it is most likely fraud.
Checking Ice Cube
Silver - heat conductor and, as such, will continue to highlight enough thermal energy so that the ice cube immediately began to melt without any help. If you put ice cube on your new "authentic" silver coin, and it will not start to melting, there is a possibility that you have a fake.
NGC and PCGs are also recommended to buy from reputable sellers and acquire coins that have already passed authentication and have relevant documents.
